BEST GPS TRACKING – SATELLITE OR PHONE BASED?

Without doubt GPS tracking is the norm of the day. Whether you are driving a cycle or a tank GPS will be needed because it will ‘show you the way’. If you are stuck in traffic, GPS will tell you how much time it will take to get home. If you are at a new place and don’t know how to reach office or the shopping mall then GPS will come in handy to show you the way. If there is an emergency and you want to know the shortest way to the nearest doctor or the pharmacy then the GPS will come to rescue.

If you own a fleet of vehicles and want to know where the drivers are then use the GPS to track them. GPS can also help you document, analyse and correct the problems in driver behaviour and vehicle upkeep. GPS systems can help you in every corner of the world. There are many types of GPS tracking systems but broadly they can be classified as satellite based or phone based.

Satellite Based GPS tracking

This is the oldest form of GPS tracking methods. The concept is to use the satellites, receivers, and transmitters etc. to track the vehicle in real time. With satellite based GPS tracking you can:

Get help even at remotest location: Phone based GPS tracking satellite tracking can give you help even at remotest locations where there is not power. This means that you will never be without guidance. This is a great help in areas where mobile signals do not reach and there is not power.

Battery Power: Satellite based GPS tracking systems come run on rechargeable batteries and therefore you can just replace the battery when it runs out of power.

Easy installations: Satellite based GPS trackers are very easy to install. You just need to screw them in your vehicle easily or there are systems that you can even carry in your pocket when going on a hike or in the sea.

No maintenance: Except for changing the battery from time to time the GPS receivers do not require any special care and therefore no extra cost. Satellite GPS trackers are generally weather resistant and very solidly built. Therefore you can simply install and forget it and keep it using it.

Carry them anywhere: With satellite based GPS tracking systems you can carry them anywhere. They can be internationally carried so that you never lose the way.
Phone Based GPS system

Phone based satellite systems let you navigate with the help of the frequency carrier of your phone. These are installed in your phone and can give you the location details by using the data or Wi-Fi of your phone. Phone based GPS systems use the method of trilateration to calculate the distance between the satellites and the receiver and where they intersect that is the location.

With phone based GPS systems you can be:

Online at all times: With just the phone in your hand you can be online every time. And share your real time location with friends and families easily. This means that they are never far away from you.

Easy to use: Phone based GPS systems are easy to use and can be easily used with a downloaded app on the phone. They are self-explanatory and a big help to the elderly and the children much to the relief of the guardians.

However phone based GPS systems work best when they are in range of the cell towers. In places where the signal is low it is difficult to track the locations. You can download and save some maps for later used but they don’t give real time location. Another problem with phone based GPS systems is that they drain the battery of the phone quickly. If the phone is off the location cannot be traced.

Therefore the choice of phone based or satellite based systems will depend on your need. In both cases the GPS system will be an asset to your personal or business use.
