GPS tracking is a highly evolved tracking system that provides security to the car owners. GPS tracking makes use of the wireless as well as wired technology to keep the track of the vehicle you are travelling in.
The Technology
GPS stands for Global Positioning System. GPS was first developed in the 1990s. The system was first designed for the US military but today it is used by vehicle owners worldwide to track and even control the movement of their vehicles.
GPS system uses a network of twenty four satellites and their ground stations. This network is known as the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The GNSS satellites makes use of microwave signals to communicate with the GPS devices installed in the car. Based on this communication of the location, speed of the automobile, the time of travel and even the direction the car is travelling too, can be easily computed and provided to the user. This information can be stored in the GPS device to be used later if required.
The GPS system can provide real time (active) as well as historic navigation reports (passive) for any kind of journey be it by foot, air, sea, road or rail. GPS systems use the principal of triangulation (2D and 3D). Using mathematical calculations the GPS receiver uses the location of the vehicle through three satellites and the distance between the places. The microwave travels at high speed and gathers the data at the same time. Thus this simple technique can prove lots of benefits for car owners.
1. Economical Fuel Usage:
GPS tracking systems in your car can calculate the shortest route to the destination and thus it will help you save on the fuel costs. Advanced tracking apps on the smart phones and GPS devices can estimate fuel costs and fuel average which will eventually result in economic savings.
2. Manage timing:
GPS tracking systems can help provide real time traffic updates which can help the car owner plan their day with ease and manage their time better.
3. Theft prevention:
This is one of the biggest advantages of GPS tracking. GPS devices on the cars can give alerts to the police as well as car owners when there is any kind of unauthorized movement of the car. The alerts can go in the form of messages, alert sounds and even sirens in the car. And in the worst case scenarios if the car does get stolen the police and even the owner can track the car easily and catch the thieves.
4. Better driving habits:
GPS trackers keep a record of the driver’s preferences and car’s fuel usage. As a car owner the GPS tracker can help provide you advanced tracking to keep the record of driving habits such as braking too often, driving over the speed limit, neglecting to keep the fuel tank full, keeping the clutch half pressed etc. All these habits can cause serious damage to the car leading to further expenses of repairs. With GPS technology the car owners and the car companies can work together to improve the driving habits which will increase the life of the car.
5. Call support in case of emergency:
Imagine your car breaking down at night or being involved in an accident at a place where there is no help around.
The GPS system in your car will come in handy at such times by providing location details to the help centres and get you rescued in time. The use of GPS systems is not limited to car only you can also use it in tracking the location of your children while they are away. If you have more than one car which you hire out then GPS can help you keep the track of the vehicles in real time thus providing a better control and fewer misuses.

28 Mar 2018There are so many different great reasons to get a GPS tracker. I really liked how you mentioned that they can be used in emergencies. If someone gets lost hiking or a loved one is missing, a GPS could come in handy to find their location very fast.
